Just like an insurance policy backups by their nature are dead money until you need them. To make sure you are making the most appropriate use of the space, time and money available during your backup window ensure you don’t backup:
- Temporary files
- Memory dumps
- Page files
- Hibernate files
- Installation files – these should be kept safe elsewhere
- Operating system files – unless there is a bare metal restore process
Review your backup logs to see what unnecessary files are been retained on your system.
