Maintaining the hardware on your estate can be an expensive task with a number of options of how to approach it. Here are some things to think about hardware management:
- Warranty management – replace equipment at the end of the manufacturer’s warranty period and maintain a number of spare machines to switch to in the interim to ensure the problem does not affect the end user.
- Hold a number of spares – negotiate with your supplier to hold a number of spares and send your own engineer out to fix the problem.
- Take out a maintenance contract – one that provides an engineer to visit site to replace faulty parts 24 hours a day, every day of the year. This can become costly for larger estates and could require all the software replacing.
- Replace the desktop estate with thin clients – all the processing and data is maintained in the data centre with only a dumb device on each person’s desk that could be replaced by the user.
